American Days
The event started with a formal opening of a photographic exhibition "Presidents in their free time". The exhibition contained over thirty photographs in which the photographers had caught US presidents at moments of leisure and relaxation outside of the White House.
The next item on the agenda were two open lectures, which took place simultaneously. One of them - "President-citizen: what is the influence of American values on presidency" – held by the consul, concerned among others American attitude towards the position of the country’s president. A numerous group of secondary school pupils asked questions as to the character of authority in the USA and whether Barack Obama would be able to change the image of America in the view of Europe and the world. The lecture finished with a presentation of videos from You Tube concerning the election campaign of the current US president.
At the same time, Ms Iwona Sadecka, advisor for press and culture in the Consulate in Kraków, held a lecture entitled "The President as an embodiment of the American dream". The lecture was particularly interesting for our guest had observed the last days of the election campaign and the day of announcing the election results live in the USA, in the very centre of events. She sent her comments and observations to the country and put them up on the onet.pl webpage.
The event ended with general discussion on the future of the United States as warrantor of world peace.
